“Xmas” is Not “Christmas”: A Common Error Among Christians and Why they Should Not Use It

Many people naively argue that “Xmas” is an abbreviation of “Christmas”. According to its etymology, the “X” in the word “Xmas” originated in 1551 (the 16th Century) from the first letter of the Greek word Χριστος (Khrīstos or Christos) which means “Christ”.

But why should the sacred Name of Jesus Christ The Son of God be replaced with an “X“? What effort or how much time would it take to write the six-letter word “Christ” in full? It is absolutely another machination of satan to influence human beings to dishonour Jesus Christ The Son of The Almighty God, nothing less. Xmas is not Christmas, and a Christian should not use it.

It is for the same ungodly reason that some people, prominent among whom is Barack Obama during the eight years when he was the President of the United States, have changed “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Christmas” to “Merry Holiday Season” and “Happy Holiday Season”, just to ensure that the Name of Jesus Christ” is not mentioned.

Malachi 1:6 reveals the tendency of human beings to dishonour God:

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to the priests: “A son honors his father, and a servant respects his master. If I am your father and master, where are the honor and respect I deserve? You have shown contempt for my name! (New Living Translation of The Holy Bible)

Christians should understand the divine status of Jesus Christ as God The Son and how God The Father exalted Him and His Name above every other name: 

5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

If you are a Christian, you will find delight in honouring Jesus Christ Who died for you, to set you free from the bondage of sin and its consequences, and gave you eternal life through His vicarious death for you. You will not engage in a foolish argument that supports the removal of “Christ” from “Christmas” and defend the UNGODLY use of the term “Xmas” that dishonours JESUS CHRIST.
