A Word In Season (Part 69): Be Equipped For Life’s Battles  (No. 5)—Fear God

The fear of God attracts God into your battles. One of the ways to be equipped for the battles of life is to live a life of perpetual reverence for God. To fear God connotes to reverence God. It means to hold God in awe. It also means to give God the utmost respect. The fear of God means to be conscious that God is a God of mercy and of judgement and that there are consequences for our wrong actions if we do not repent. To fear God also means to avoid being presumptuous or taking God for granted.

Those who fear and reverence God do dangerous sacrifices of their best of the best for God. Abraham demonstrated this high reverence for God when he agreed to sacrifice Isaac, his only covenant child. By offering Isaac, Abraham passed the highest test of reverence which is sacrifice. Can you pass the test of reverence today if God demands of you your best?

And He said, Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear and revere God, since you have not held back from Me or begrudged giving Me your son, your only son.”  Genesis 22:12 AMPC

What is more, Satan is afraid of those who fear God. Sin gives the devil a lawful access into a believer’s territory. Satan uses sin as a bait to pull out a believer from his or her secured haven for an attack. Sin gives Satan the lawful right to resist the children of God and even the men of God. Joshua, the high priest, is our perfect example.

And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. [2] And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? [3] Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.”  Zechariah 3:1-3 KJV

Let us now look at some specific benefits to have a lifestyle of Godly reverence.

SEVEN BENEFITS OF THE FEAR OF GOD

1). You will become God’s delight.

2). Deliverance comes to those who turn to God for help in reverence.

As you live in reverence of the Almighty God, you will not be a victim of circumstance in the hands of the devil. Every lawful captive shall be set free by the mercies of God.

“Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? [25] But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.” Isaiah 49:24-25 KJV

3). You will attract God’s attention and protection.

4). God will remember his covenant with you and your fathers.

5). You will eat the good of the land. (Isaiah 1:18-19)

6). God will provide a substitute or a ransom for your life.
