Topic: Living Water For The Thirsty Soul (Part 3)

READ: Isaiah 44:2-4 (KJV); 2 Kings 20:16, 18-19 (MSG)

“Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour
waterupon him that is thirsty, and
will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.”

“Then Isaiah spoke to Hezekiah, “Listen to what God has to say about this… Worse yet, your sons, the progeny of sons you’ve begotten, will end up as eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “If God says it, it must be good.” But he was thinking to himself, “It won’t happen during my lifetime—I’ll enjoy peace and security as long as I live.”

MESSAGE

Beloved, God who has promised to take care of your thirst (all forms of thirst), also said, “I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.” Your concern should therefore not be about your welfare (sin thirstfree life) only but also about your “seed,” “offspring,” and “your sons, the progeny of sons you’ve begotten” (as the opening scripture says).

Christian parents are becoming more like Hezekiah these days. They focus on getting their thirst quenched without bothering about their children. When they’re prompted by the Holy Spirit or people about the ungodly lifestyles of their children and the undesirable consequences that would follow, they’re less concerned and comfort themselves by speaking like Hezekiah, “It won’t happen during my lifetime—I’ll enjoy peace and security as long as I live.”

Dear Christian parent, God is not unaware of the difficulties involved in raising godly children in these last days (perilous times) with the attendant characteristics. 2 Timothy 3:1-4 says, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.” As awkward as these characteristics are, God has made provision for you, a Christian parent, to lay down godly and good inheritance (physical and spiritual) for your children and their generations. You will not fail as you do your part. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Two categories of children are:

(1) those delivered BEFORE you became born again (saved); and

(2) those born AFTER your salvation, as a Christian.

The unique challenges faced while raising both categories (in the fear of God) can be taken care of by teaching them early how to be saved (born again) and live a sin-thirstfree life. Disciple them early to receive God’s living water in the person of the Holy Spirit and every sinful thirst will be quenched.

Let God be pleased with you and your children as He was with Abraham as recorded in Genesis 18:19. The scripture says, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”

Teach your children early, individually and collective, how to pray, study, meditate on God’s word (Bible), praise, worship, and fellowship with brethren, etc so that they’ll benefit from God’s provisions to grow and mature beautifully unto His glory.

Don’t be less concerned about your children. Don’t emulate Hezekiah, who said, “If God says it, it must be good.” But he was thinking to himself, “It won’t happen during my lifetime—I’ll enjoy peace and security as long as I live.”

Stand out and work (labour in the place of prayer and discipleship) as godly parents and cancel (reverse) all negative thoughts, words, actions, and prophecies against your children and their generations. Do your part for God to fulfil His good promises in you and in the lives of your children and their generations as it is written, “Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not… my servant; and thou . . . whom I have chosen. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.”

PRAYER

My God and Father, thank you for making me a Christian parent. Lord God, as I labour in the place oft prayer and discipleship, bless me and my children and their generations by pouring and giving us to drink your living water that has the capacity to quench all forms of thirst. Let the Holy Spirit indwell us and flush out every sinful thirst and let your inputted righteousness prevail in us until Your return in Jesus’ name. Amen!
