Topic: Seek Peace for Your Children

READ: Isaiah 39: 5-8 (MSG); 1 Chronicles 17:16-17, 27 (KJV)

“Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Now listen to this Message from God-ofthe-Angel-Armies: I have to warn you, the time is coming when everything in this palace, along with everything your ancestors accumulated before you, will be hauled off to Babylon. God says that there will be nothing left. Nothing. And not only your things but your sons. Some of your sons will be taken into exile, ending up as eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”

Hezekiah replied to Isaiah, “Good. If God says so, it’s good.” Within himself he was thinking, “But surely nothing bad will happen in my lifetime. I’ll enjoy peace and stability as long as I live.”

“And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God. . . Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.”

MESSAGE

Beloved, your reconciliation to God through the perfect finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary makes you a joint-heir with Him (Romans 8:17). Being His image and likeness, you’re empowered to enjoy all His goodness. In the same vein, your children are expected to enjoy His blessings in peace and not curse. Follow Scripture principles and seek peace for your children. They will continue to enjoy this peace even after your demise and it will be passed on to the next generations. Emulate King David, who prayed for God’s blessings for his household and their generations yet unborn.

Do not be selfish like Hezekiah, who, instead of interceding to avert the ugly pronouncement on his children and household, accepted it by saying, “Good. If God says so, it’s good.” His selfishness was revealed in the recorded Scripture that says, “Within himself he was thinking, “But surely nothing bad will happen in my lifetime. I’ll enjoy peace and stability as long as I live.” Remember, Proverbs 13:22a says, “A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children. . .” Strive to be a good parent who will teach, guide, and pray to establish God’s good promises on the children and the upcoming generations.

PRAYER

My God and Father, I repent from every thought, word, and act of selfishness. Help me to teach, guide, and pray your blessings (not curse) upon my children and the upcoming generations. Let Your peace reign not only in me but also in the seeds (children) from my loins in Jesus’ name. Amen!
